Harwood Chimney Fires can be Prevented
With temperatures well below freezing for days on end people are using every resource to stay warm. Wood fireplaces are cheap to operate and create a wonderful warm atmosphere. Hanging out inside those chimneys is a substance called CREOSOTE. The byproducts of all that wood you are burning escape through the chimney, but some of it sticks to the chimney lining. Over time the creosote can build up and begin to obstruct the chimney and add to the potential of a chimney fire. It is recommended to have your chimney cleaned for every cord of wood you burn. Local chimney sweeps will clean and inspect the lining to help prevent chimney fires.
